FPA Women's Health abortion clinics in CaliforniaBakersfield Abortion Clinics – FPA Women’s Health Bakersfield CA offering abortion pill, non-surgical abortion and surgical abortions.

Abortion Pill (5 to 10 Weeks Gestation)

The abortion pill is a non-surgical, non-invasive, and private way of ending a pregnancy between 5-10 weeks gestation.  The abortion pill, or “at home abortion”, is both extremely safe and highly effective with a success rate of approximately 98%. The abortion experience is undergone in the privacy and comfort of your own home.  Moderate to severe cramping, nausea and dizziness are side effects, but most patients describe the experience as similar to a “heavy period”.  A mandatory completion visit is required one to two weeks after taking the abortion pill to ensure that the patient is no longer pregnant.

Surgical Abortion (5 to 14 Weeks Gestation)

A gentle, safe, and effective (>99%) method of terminating a pregnancy between 5 to 14 weeks is the surgical abortion known as a “D&C”, or “Dilation and Curettage”.  The procedure is most often performed under general anesthesia so that the patient experiences no discomfort and remembers nothing from the procedure.  While the procedure is completed in a matter of only minutes, patients should plan to be at the office for approximately 2 hours due to pre-operative screening as well as recovery time after the procedure.  Patients who choose this method must also remember to have a responsible friend or family member come with them to drive them home after the procedure.

Surgical Abortions (14+ Weeks Gestation)

For pregnancies beyond 14 weeks gestation, a “D&E” or “Dilation and Extraction” is the required method of abortion.  This method is a very safe and effective (>99%) procedure which is completed in a matter of minutes by our licensed and trained physicians.  An initial visit on the day prior to the procedure will be required for a pre-operative exam and dilation of the cervix.  On the day of the D&E procedure, general anesthesia is used so that the patient experiences no discomfort and remembers nothing from the procedure.  Patients must have a responsible friend or family member with them at the time of the appointment to drive them home after the procedure.
