Alternative Pregnancy Options

What are some options for pregnancy termination?

Once you have made the often difficult decision to terminate your pregnancy, your options for care may vary based upon your pre-existing medical history and how many weeks pregnant you are currently.

If you are less than 11 weeks pregnant and you choose abortion, you may choose to either have a medication abortion or have a procedure abortion. Both methods of abortion are very safe and are highly effective.

If you are more than 11 weeks pregnant, you will generally need a performed procedure to complete an abortion. Procedures are scheduled in-person at a doctor’s office or clinic.

Which abortion method is best for me?

Your choice to obtain a medication or procedure abortion is very personal and should include consideration of all aspects of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Medication abortion is completed in your home or personal setting over the course of 48 hours. It allows you to be in familiar surroundings with maximum privacy. If you are a good fit for medication abortion, our doctors can even provide medications for nausea and discomfort if you choose.

Procedure abortion is usually completed in a doctor’s office, clinic setting or hospital setting. Most early procedures are completed within 20 minutes although you may need a short time to recover afterwards in a Recovery Room. Most patients tolerate procedure abortion and are ready to return home within 2 hours or less.
